Unlike the compression built into IIS 4/5 (Windows NT/2000), IIS 6.0 offers out-of-the-box compression embedded into the core code, allowing for extremely fast HTTP compression with minimal resource penalties. While Port80 Software's httpZip for IIS 4/5 is the best solution for Windows NT/2000 systems, we recommend that you use the internal compression engine in IIS 6.0.<br />
The only major drawback with IIS 6.0 built-in compression is a lack of configurability via the Web server management interface. IIS 6.0 does not provide a graphical interface to most compression controls, and configuration necessities like site-level and schematic compression are only accessible via a labor-intensive programmatic interface.
